SUNRISE, Fla. Rickey Henderson Jersey . -- Martin St. Louis and the Tampa Bay Lightning have remained on a roll even without star Steven Stamkos. St. Louis had a goal and two assists and the Tampa Bay Lightning extended their winning streak to five games with a 6-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Monday. St. Louis had an assist on Tyler Johnsons tap-in goal off a wide shot off the boards by Victor Hedman and added another on Valtteri Filppulas power-play goal less than five minutes later for a 3-1 Lightning lead. St. Louis scored his 16th goal of the season when his batted shot eluded Florida goaltender Scott Clemmensen for a 4-1 advantage after two periods. "When (Steven Stamkos) went down, we had that sense of shock, but won some games. Then reality set in. It set in when we went out West," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "Marty went into a little bit of a funk at that time when Stammer was gone. I dont think weve had a better player on our team in the last eight games than (Marty). Hes the captain and hes led the way for us. "Marty has clearly put the team on his back of late." Alex Killorn tied the game for Tampa Bay 19 seconds after Sean Bergenheim gave Florida a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal past Lightning goalie Ben Bishop. "Marty was huge. He opened up the floodgates and made some great plays and scored a pretty nice goal, too," Killorn said. "Hes obviously a leader on our team and we look to him for strong play. He came up huge in the second and everyone kind of followed his lead." The Lightning are 10-2-2 in games when St. Louis has appeared on the scoresheet since Stamkos broke his leg on Nov. 11. "I feel good out there adjusting to new linemates," said St. Louis, who is on a five-game point streak. "Its been fun. The young guys have a lot of energy. When youre winning and contributing, thats a fun feeling. "I definitely took it as a challenge and want to deliver." In his first full season behind the Lightning bench, Cooper has watched his club jump out to a quick start and hold a strong 23-11-3 record despite having Stamkos sidelined. Cooper said the key to beating the Panthers by five goals -- they also beat them 7-2 in the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Oct. 10 -- was the quick answer after the Panthers took the early lead. "It wasnt so much the second (period), it was the answer after they scored. We had a couple of really good penalty kills and made an unfortunate error that ended up in the back of our net. A big turning point for us was scoring on the next shift," Cooper said. "We went into the room 1-1 and we came out flying. It helped to get the 5-on-3. We smelled it. The boys got after it. "Were riding some momentum going into Christmas." Florida coach Peter Horachek was disappointed in his teams effort, especially returning home after going 3-1 on a tough road swing through Canada with wins over Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. "The guys didnt really have a lot of push-back. It was probably the worst game since Ive been here for sure," the interim coach said. NOTES: Florida F Scottie Upshall (upper body) was hurt in the first period and didnt return. ... Tampa Bay D Sami Salo (upper body) left in the second period and didnt return. ... Florida G Tim Thomas remained on the injured reserve (retroactive to Dec. 12) and missed his sixth straight game after being hurt nearly two weeks ago in practice. ... With the win in the teams third meeting, Tampa Bay won the first annual Governors Cup, created during the off-season by Florida Governor Rick Scott. ... Tampa Bay and Florida are both idle through the holiday break before hosting games Saturday -- the Lightning against Montreal, the Panthers playing Detroit. Jed Lowrie Jersey . "Hes over there," the first baseman said. "You dont need to talk to anybody else." Indeed, Peralta did it all as the majors top team won again. Matt Joyce Jersey . Almost 40 years to the day, the two teams will meet again, this time at BC Place, to celebrate the past and try to earn important points for the present. http://www.authenticbaseshopathletics.com/Walt-Weiss-Jersey/ . - Defensive end-linebacker Mike Neal apparently is returning to the Packers.SAN DIEGO -- Tyson Ross didnt look like an All-Star when he walked five batters in the first three innings, the same number he had walked in his previous five starts combined. The lanky right-hander worked through his uncharacteristic wildness and pitched the San Diego Padres to a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night. "Just find a groove. The defence was back there making plays. Just find a way to get outs," said Ross, a first-time All-Star this year. Jedd Gyorko singled in Yangervis Solarte with the go-ahead run with two outs in the sixth inning, and Solarte later added an insurance home run. Ross won his third straight start, holding St. Louis to one run and four hits in six innings. He struck out seven, including fanning the side in his last inning. It was the eighth time Ross (10-10) went six-plus innings and allowed two or fewer runs, the second-longest such streak in the majors. And he did it Tuesday night after struggling with his fastball command. "It was just one of those days where I didnt have it and I had to battle out there," he said. "Hes been so good over the last couple of months, especially this month," manager Bud Black said. "He was just a little bit out of sync, especially with the fastball early, and the harder he tried to reel it in, the tougher it was. ... He did right the ship, but very uncharacteristic, the five walks, especially early in the game." Gyorko returned Monday from a 44-game stay on the disabled list with plantar fasciitis. His run-scoring single to left off Lance Lynn came just as it seemed the Padres would strand two runners. After Solarte and Seth Smith walked, Will Venable popped a bunt to catcher A.J. Pierzynski -- the Padres second botched bunt in as many innings -- and Yonder Alonso flied out to left. Solarte, obtained from the New York Yankeees in the Chase Headley trade, homered into the short porch in right with two outs in the seventh. Marcus Semien Jersey. It was his second with the Padres and eighth overall. Joaquin Benoit pitched the ninth for his third save in as many opportunities and second since Huston Street was traded to the Angels on July 18. Lynn (11-8) allowed two runs, one earned, and four hits in six innings. He struck out six and walked three. "You hate to lose a game that way when you are throwing the ball well and thinking you are making good pitches. But it just wasnt my night." Lynn said. TRAINERS ROOM Padres: Right-hander Ian Kennedy, who missed his scheduled start because of a left oblique strain, is scheduled to throw on the side Wednesday. ... Right-hander Andrew Cashner, on the disabled list with shoulder soreness, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday. He last threw on Sunday in Atlanta and didnt report any discomfort. ON DECK Cardinals: Right-hander Joe Kelly (2-1, 3.90) makes his first career start against Padres. Padres: Right-hander Jesse Hahn (6-2, 2.12) is 6-1 with a 1.47 ERA since June 14, with 46 strikeouts against 17 walks. MISCUES The Cardinals had three errors, including second baseman Kolten Wongs overthrow on Riveras grounder in the third that led to an unearned run. "Kong just had one sail on him but obviously that one hurt," manager Mike Matheny said. "We are having trouble scoring runs and facing good pitching. Weve got do the little things right and today we didnt necessarily do that." WOOF It was Dog Days of Summer at Petco Park, so the Padres had Olympic slopestyle silver medallist Gus Kenworthy throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Kenworthy gained fame for adopting four stray puppies and their mother he found during the Sochi Games. After throwing the first pitch, he did a flip.
